This is my first experience with an SG2 knife, but I have several other Bunkas, including the Blue Steel #2 from this company. That knife is more rustic and heavier, but this one is more like a scalpel. First of all, the Damascus finish on this knife is stunning. The handle is typical Wa style, but the wood is beautiful as well and really compliments the look.
The blade itself is very thin and sharp. The knife itself is very light, and is very nimble. It glides through tomatoes and other vegetables like celery, cucumbers and onions like they weren't there. Potatoes cut smoothly and quickly, again slicing like a razor. I have not used it yet to cut meat or harder veggies like sweet potatoes.
I was so impressed with this Bunka knife, I ordered its big brother, a Hatsukokoro Ryuhyo SG2 Kiritsuke.
This is a wonderful prep knife, and I think you would be very happy with this one.
