It's hard to get super excited over a cutting board, but this one really works for me. Clearly the surface is pliant enough not to dull a good knife. I think it looks good on a counter, it's heavy enough not to slip around but light enough to pick up easily, and it can be put in the dish washer. I think it's an excellent cutting board for the price.

50 years ago I cut my first end-grain wood cutting board from an oak log with my chainsaw. I used other, manufactured wood boards since then, but all cross-grain, not end grain. I was tempted by the beautiful larchwood end-grain boards in all the knife vids, but didn't want to spend the bucks. The Hasegawa soft board has been a VERY happy compromise of price and performance. I like the idea that my edges get a softer treatment than on cross-grain wood. I know I won't have to sand down my Hasegawa board, like I did with the Shun wood board that would show new cuts and dings almost every day. I love the grip that food has on the surface of the board, and especially the soft landing of my knives. Never going back to wood now.

The Rubber board is a great addition to my kitchen for cutting fruits and Veggies with out worry about knife getting dull.
