I have always had German knifes (Wusthof) and have avoided Japanese knifes. well, that was just silly. I now have two MACs' the MTH-80 and the TH-80. I love them both, not sure witch one I like better. the MTH-80 is a bet heaver and is balanced at the bolster. The TH-80 is a bit handle heavy, but it is such a lightweight knife you don't even notice it. You can't go wrong either way. Just depends on your budget and how much you are willing to spend. I find myself grabbing the MAC's more often than the more expensive Wusthofs.
