MAC Professional 8.5" Chef's Knife

I am very happy with the MAC 8" chef's knife. It is exactly as described - balanced, incredibly sharp, and not overly flashy. Cutlery & More delivered it quickly and it arrived in perfect condition. I could not be happier.

I needed a new all around workhorse knife cause my older one just wasnt keeping its edge anymore, and i didnt want to have to pay hundreds of dollars for a decent knife. this mac is so sharp and the weight of it in your hand is nice and balanced, which keeps it comfortable for long periods of use. I am cautious against letting my coworkers use it though because i know they wont take care of it like i do (ie i dont open cans with my knives like they do). I am very happy with this purchase

The Mac Professional Chefs Knife is a great tool. Sharp out of the box and light weight, making it great for repetitive tasks. It goes through meat and vegetables like a hot blade through butter.

At first, because of the lightness and new handle shape, it felt awkward in my hand. But after about eight hours of use it feels extremely comfortable. The fault was in my hand, not the knife.

For anyone working in a fast professional setting this is a great tool. However, if one is also doing a lot of mincing of large quantities of produce at once, they may want to have another larger knife to hand to sub in for that specific task. The Mac knife can do that task, but because it’s small and light, it feels a little suboptimal.

Love it so far! Heard about how light it was and was concerned about it being too light. One of the reasons I don't like global is for them being too light for simple chopping. But I did a little simple chopping to test how I felt about it, thought it was great! Been having fun with it.

Although I have bought two of these for my kids based on reviews, etc., I never saw the need to replace my Shun Classic knife until the MAC super sale price showed up for Independence Day. I figured I would try it out and replace another knife, shifting it to our vacation house kitchen (not the Shun of course).

It arrived quickly as is usual from C&M, but didn’t knock my socks off with sharpness right away. Rod didn’t fix that so I finally ran it through sharpener a couple of strokes. Wow! This thing is super sharp now and compares to any of the other knives I have at this price range. I really like the Shun “d” shaped handle, so the MAC more German/US handle shape has taken some getting used to again, but if you use a pinch grip or like the European handle style, this won’t be an issue for you. I have found that the more I use the knife the excellent balance, sharpness, and lighter weight are making me tend to go to this knife as much or more than my beloved Shun Classic. Interesting.

This knife justifies the rave reviews. I still love my Shun, but I love this one too. Well worth the price.
