I have to start by saying that this is my first "real" japanese knife, and I've wanted one forever. I recently bought a shun which I am very happy with, but this is different. I have a few quality knives but no real experience with any of the higher price knives of this type. That said, it's absolutely worth the price and then some. Perfect balance, rustic simple beauty, and it feels so nice to work with. I've only had it a few days but I keep buying more veggies to prep just to have an excuse to use it. The size is very nice, not too big or small. It cuts like dream right out of the box, exceptional with tip drag cuts. I almost don't feel it in my hand once I get started, very natural. This isn't a polished knife, and I may do a slight rounding on the spine down the road, but it's exactly what I always pictured when I dreamt of my first real Japanese knife. I couldn't be happier, this knife is my new clear favorite.
