I have been looking for a good prep knife, little larger than a 6" or 6 1/2". A 7" bunka seemed about right.
This is a nicely crafted knife, with a comfortable handle, well-balanced, and nicely finished. I like the blade shape, particularly the tip, which is like a kiritsuke, and has enough of a point to make it useful. I know that ATS-34 is less used for kitchen knives than it used to be, with VG10 becoming popular, but it is still a good stainless steel, and the sale price made it worthwhile. I have been using it for about a week now, and it has become my go to general prep knife.
My one complaint about the knife is that, although it was nicely finished with a good grind, the edge was not very sharp. Since it would be returnable only if not used, I had to decide whether I liked it enough to sharpen it and keep it, or just return it. I decided to sharpen it, and it has held the edge well so far, but the factory edge would have been disappointing. I don't know if mine was just a one-off, but it is something to consider.
